This is the final project for my CS 4605 (Mobile and Ubiquitous Computing) class wherein my group designed a solution to a problem given to us by our mentor - many Deaf children are born to hearing parents who don't have the time or resources to learn American Sign Language, so we were tasked with designing a educational game with an ASL recognizer.
Our design was a turn-based battle game in Unity where the player could attack or defend against a monster based on how well they signed a given vocabulary word. A unique aspect of our project was the nonbinary scoring mechanism based on the 5 essential parameters of an ASL sign, which we hoped would improve learning by giving more targeted feedback than just "right" and "wrong."
I helped with the overall design of the game, creation and animation of characters using PixilArt, and initial research and testing into ASL teaching/learning methods. Our findings are summarized in a final paper and demo videos compiled into a presentation.
